Will my board look like the photograph?

Close, but not identical. Slate is split by hand, so edges, thickness and the exact shade of grey vary between pieces. The photographs show a representative example rather than the specific piece you will receive.

How do I look after slate?

Wash by hand with warm water and a little dish soap, then dry it. Do not put slate in a dishwasher and do not leave it soaking. If the surface looks chalky, wipe a few drops of mineral oil across it with a cloth and buff off the excess.

Is it food safe?

Yes. The slate is sealed with a food-safe mineral finish and nothing we use to finish a piece is applied to a surface food touches unless it is rated for it.

Can I write on it with chalk?

On the cheese board and the serving boards, yes. Use a soft chalk marker and wipe it off with a damp cloth.

Do you engrave?

Every piece carries our own mark. We also engrave custom wording on the larger flat pieces — email us before ordering and we will confirm what fits.

How is it packed?

Double-boxed with corner protection. Stone travels badly if you are casual about it.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Not at the moment.
